Good morning.A second official candidate has formally entered the race for Elmira mayor ahead of the twenty-twenty-seven municipal election cycle. First District Democratic City Councilman Nicholas Grasso announced his candidacy to challenge incumbent Republican Mayor Dan Mandell. Grasso, a small business owner and Elmira native, joins independent candidate Julian Raven in the early race. Grasso states his platform will focus heavily on fiscal responsibility, taxpayer protections, and increased neighborhood safety initiatives.Meanwhile, Elmira residents are being urged to prepare for widespread temporary parking restrictions as major city roadwork begins this morning. The Department of Public Works is launching extensive milling and paving projects across significant portions of Gray Street, College Avenue, Clinton Street, and Roe Avenue. Drivers are requested to move all vehicles to nearby side streets during active construction hours to ensure safety and avoid towing.And the New York State Department of Transportation is warning Chemung County motorists to prepare for long-term travel delays starting today. A major stretch of state Route fourteen will be reduced to a single lane between West Broad Street in Horseheads and Chapman Place in Elmira to accommodate a massive resurfacing project.
