Good morning.A high-stakes political showdown over Parkersburg’s trash collection heads to City Council tomorrow night. Despite activists successfully gathering over three-thousand signatures to force a public referendum on a controversial fifteen-million-dollar Waste Management contract, the city clerk declared the petition invalid. The ACLU of West Virginia has filed an emergency motion asking a Wood County judge to intervene. In the meantime, Waste Management will officially take over residential trash pickup on a temporary basis starting July first due to zero remaining employees in the city's sanitation department.In regional affairs, nearly sixty professionals from across the state gathered at the New River Gorge this weekend for the annual Leadership West Virginia program, designed to train industry leaders to tackle state economic and healthcare challenges.And across the river in Belpre, city officials are urging park visitors to show respect after a string of recent vandalism incidents at Civitan Park left a newly installed musical instrument heavily damaged.For more news, download the radioNOVO app. I’m Codi Gaboff, radioNOVO News, a service of Seven Mountains Media.
